Hi! I'm Kari, AKA Her Royal Highness, Queen of the Idiot People. Welcome to my kingdom! If you're using Netscape to view this page, I highly recommend switching to Explorer. It looks better in Explorer and you can hear the music.
I graduated from a tiny high school in 1996. There were 43 in my graduating class.
From there, I went to Connors State College for two years. I really enjoyed my time there. I met a lot of great people and had a lot of fun at Connors.
Then, I went to St. Gregory's University. Because of transferring, I had to spend an extra year at SGU. I didn't mind. I loved it there. I love going back to visit. When former students go back, people don't say "welcome back," they say "welcome home."
As you can see by my background, I'm a HUGE Atlanta Braves fan. And I didn't jump on the bandwagon in 91 like MOST Braves fans did! I've been a Braves fan since the womb (literally!).
There are few things that I love almost as much as baseball. One of them is football. Speaking of football, this is TOTAL BS!
I have a cat named Mookie, and a rabbit named Maddux. Mookie is 16 years old and weighs 12 pounds now. He had weighed in the neighborhood of 20 pounds, then became Diabetic and we had to put him on a diet.
update:We had to put Mookie to sleep on Sept. 11, 2006 at the age of 18. His health got really bad and it just got to be cruel to let him go on like that. He was a beautiful Siamese with big expressive blue eyes.
Maddux, my rabbit, is my little escape artist! One day he broke out of his cage and was loose in the house! Then another day, he got outside by himself! My dad and I got him herded back into his cage. When it's not too hot or cold, we have this room that he (Maddux, not my dad! haha) lives in. It's actually a sunroom, but we never bothered to put a floor down, so it's just a concrete slab for a floor, and it has a door and some windows. We had a window open and he scratched a hole in the screen and out he went! Mookie notified us (by looking with his head cocked sideways) that Maddux was out.
update: Maddux died on Sept. 1, 2005. I don't really know what happened to him. We went to bed and he was fine, got up the next morning and he was dead. He was about 8 years old when he died. He was so pretty. A solid black mini-lop-eared bunny with brown eyes.
I used to have a dog named Clint (my mom nick-named him Munchie) for about 11 years, but he disappeared one day in June of 2001. I have no idea what kind of dog he was, but he was really little and black, but with a BIG dog bark. A few times, guys would climb back up in their trucks when they heard him but didn't see him, thinking he was a big dog. He was the sweetest little guy!
I had a couple of hermit crabs for a while too, but they both died.
I now have a dog named Markie. I don't know what kind of dog she is. She looks a lot like a Chihuahua only bigger. She also kind of looks like a Min-Pin. She's reddish-brown and very protective of me. If she thinks anyone is hurting me, or thinks anyone is going to hurt me, she goes on the attack. My mom adopted her from the pound. They were going to put her to sleep the next day because she had a wound on her side and they didn't think anyone would adopt her because of that.
I also have 2 cats, a Siamese named Reggie and a yellow cat named Rufus. It had been a few months since Mookie died, when my mom's friend said a pregnant Siamese showed up in her yard. Mom told her if any kittens looked Siamese we'd take one. We were still a few weeks away from getting to bring Reggie home, when we were at the mall and heard a kitten crying in the parking lot. After much hiding and hissing and spitting (from the kitten), Rufus came home with us. These are the strangest 2 cats I've ever met.
I lost my dad on April 4, 2005 to a massive heart attack. He had been fine, and in pretty good health, then 4 hours later we were planning his funeral. It's just unreal how your whole world can change in the blink of an eye. The ambulance got lost on the way to our house. They didn't bother to call or anything. They just drove up and down the highway with their siren going until I called someone to go chase them down. He was gone before they even got here. There aren't even words to describe how horrible that experience was. Suddenly, everything I'd ever known was different and spiraling out of control. I can remember almost every detail of that day very vividly.
I spent my entire first year at St. Gregory's ("St. Keg's," as we called it!) working on an art and literary publication named The Omnibus. It was a lot of fun working on it. The staff and I spent MANY long hours on it, but we produced a publication that we are very proud of. Click on the tiger paw to read my poems that are in it, plus two others.
I also enjoy making fun of George W. Bush! It's kind of a hobby! Clicking on the paw will take you to my collection of Dubya pictures! All of them are taken from Political Jokes-George W. Bush Humor
One of my favorite things to do is to watch fireworks. I can just get lost in them. I was lucky enough to be in Washington, DC for Independence Day 2007. That was just so special for me to be there then.
Click this paw to see some of my favorite fireworks pictures.
This tiger paw will take you to a site where you can make your own cyber fireworks show.
Major life update: In March 2009, I started to work at the VA as a claims examiner. What that means is that veterans and servicepeople apply for education benefits and I process their claim. It was a major struggle the first 4-5 months, but I'm finally getting the hang of it. So that must mean it's time for all of the policies and procedures to change again. But the people I work with are fantastic and I finally enjoy what I do.
The music playing on this page is Eye of the Tiger.
